Why Refined?

Will my food taste like coconut?

No. Refining removes the coconut taste and aroma, so a stir-fry tastes like a stir-fry and a roast tastes like a roast. That neutrality is the point - it means one oil covers almost everything you cook.

Isn't refined lower quality than virgin?

Different, not lesser. Virgin is made for people who want the coconut flavour. Refined is made for people who want the oil to disappear into the dish. For everyday frying, roasting and baking, neutral is the more useful product.

How is it refined?

Through clay filtration. The oil is passed through natural clay filters, which remove the aroma and flavour compounds without chemicals or solvents. It's done in New Zealand under Australian and New Zealand certified and licensed HACCP food safety rules, and the result contains no additives, no contaminants and no trans-fats.

Where does it come from?

Blue Coconut is 100% pure and natural Pacific Island coconut oil, refined in New Zealand. It's sourced from Pacific island communities and refined here under New Zealand and Australian certified and licensed food safety methods.

Cooking Questions Answered

Can I swap it for butter or olive oil?

Yes, one for one. Use the same quantity you'd use of any other cooking oil. In baking it swaps for butter at a 1:1 ratio and gives a soft, rich texture and it makes the recipe dairy-free and vegan-friendly at the same time.

How should I store it?

In the pantry at room temperature. Coconut oil sets solid when it's cold and turns liquid when it's warm. Both are completely normal and neither affects quality. Just spoon it straight from the tub, or warm it gently if you'd rather it liquid.
